Wild Wonder: Meet Dulux's 2023 Colour of the Year

Anyone interested in home design knows that your colour palette determines the general mood of your home. The hues you gravitate to when you create a relaxing haven are different when designing an energised abode. Since colours are so significant, it is no surprise that paint retailers are influential in determining trends.

For the past 20 years, Dulux has determined the most prominent shade of the year based on the recommendations of experts. Utilising intelligence from architects, cultural analysts, designers, and innovators, they've discovered what consumers are most likely to gravitate towards next. Speaking of next, they've recently announced their 2023 Colour of the Year: Wild Wonder.

Described as “a soft gold with hints of green inspired by fresh seed pods and harvest grain,” this soft earthy hue is what the doctor ordered to fight back against the general blues the past two years have brought in. Dulux defines Wild Wonder as “a positive, glowing tone, inspired by the natural world”. It's a hue that is destined to bring the great outdoors and its soothing properties inside our homes.

Wild Wonder is a style chameleon that will match any décor style and adapt to any room. It is not always easy to find your style and match colours to befit your mood. But that's something Dulux recognises. So to help, they've developed four different palettes to match their Colour of the Year, each with its own codes and properties.

There's the Lush palette. Here, Wild Wonder is developed to create an atmosphere of rootedness and support. It uses soft greens and forest tones to play on nature’s healing powers. The Buzz palette pulls its inspiration from a field of wildflowers. It matches the soothing tones of Wild Wonders with energising bursts of colour such as pink, orange, or purple. With the Raw palette, Dulux puts the accent on the diversity of materials that can be combined to create a soothing cocoon, matching the golden tint of Wild Wonder with soft browns and greys. Finally, with the Flow palette, Wild Wonder complements shades of blue for a balanced and playful approach.

Wild Wonder is sure to find its place in the bedrooms, living rooms, bathrooms, and more. It will be right at home in eclectic and earthy decorating style such as Coastal, Boho chic, or Japandi interiors...
